Prep Roundup: Kerr-Vance girls pull out win over Grace of Raleigh

Kerr-Vance got some big minutes and points out of its reserves in Friday’s 38-36 win over Grace Christian of Raleigh.

Cassidy Tucker hit the game-winning jumper with 16 seconds to play for the Spartans, who improved to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the Eastern Plains Independent Conference.

Rachel Ross led KVA with 15 points and Rebecca Ross had eight.

Spartans head coach Brian Russell added that Bryles Cutts gave KVA some good minutes when foul trouble arose.

KVA’s next game is Tuesday at St. David’s.

Eagles defeat South Granville, 58-46

Dennis Waddell scored 16 points to lead Warren County to a 58-46 win over South Granville in varsity boys action Friday.

Tyler Thompson and Charlie Williams each had nine points for the Eagles, who improved to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference. A.J. Alston added nine points and seven rebounds.

Warren County hosts Southern Vance Friday.

Warriors edge Crusaders

Tyrek Beverly scored 30 points and J.F. Webb knocked off Cardinal Gibbons Friday, 70-57.

Webb (7-8, 2-3 Big Eight Conference) trailed by a point at halftime before taking control of the game in the third quarter.

The Warriors visit Orange Friday.

Northern drops game to Southern Durham

The Northern Vance varsity girls basketball fell 72-34 to Southern Durham Friday.

The Vikings were led by Jackie Miller and Kenya Perry, who each had 10 points. KyNyiah Landrum added nine.

Northern visits Northwood Friday.
