Eagles open league play with win

A.J. Alston posted a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds and Warren County opened 2-A Northern Carolina Conference play Monday with a 68-53 win at home over N.C. School of Science and Math.

The Eagles (6-1, 1-0) led 34-31 at halftime before outscoring the visitors 20-9 in the third quarter.

Dennis Waddell was also in double-figure scoring for Warren County with 11 points and added five rebounds. Also contributing for the Eagles were Tyler Thompson (nine points), Justin Fitts (seven points, eight assists) and Charlie Williams (six points, five assists).

Warren County hosts Northern Vance Friday. The Vikings took the first round last Friday in overtime, 74-71.
