Prep Roundup: Lady Vikings edged in overtime
The Northern Vance varsity girls basketball lost 68-66 in overtime at Orange Saturday, playing in a makeup game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
Northern, which dropped to 2-7 in the 3-A Big Eight Conference, was outscored 8-6 in the extra session.
Three Vikings scored in double figures as Kenya Perry led the team with 23 points. Jackie Miller had 15 and KyNyiah Landrum 10. Briana Nelson and Kayleigh Spencer each tallied seven points and Aneicia Wilkerson added four.
Orange picked up its first league win and was led by Kaylen Campbell’s 24 points.
Orange pulls away from Northern
Northern Vance was within a point of Orange at halftime Saturday before the Panthers outscored the Vikings 26-12 in the third quarter of a 76-67 varsity boys win.
Northern dropped to 1-9 in the 3-A Big Eight Conference with the loss and Orange improved to 8-2.
Tavin Moore returned to the lineup after an 11-game absence to the lead the Vikings with 14 points. The senior guard was Northern’s leading scorer before being sidelined with an injury.
Kris Haywood had 13 points for the Vikings and Anthony Mims finished with 12.
Orange sank 23 more free throws than Northern, converting 32-of-48 for the game. The Vikings were 9-of-16.
The Northern boys and girls each visit Southern Durham on Tuesday and host Cardinal Gibbons Wednesday before ending the week at Chapel Hill on Friday.
