Winston-Salem State bows out in second round

Winston-Salem State's 10-game winning streak was snapped Saturday in West Virginia as the Rams fell to Shepherd in the second round of the Division II football playoffs.

Winston-Salem State, which features former Northern Vance players Carlos Fields and Tehvyn Brantley, lost 7-0 and gave up the game's only score on a 29-yard run in the third quarter.

The Rams were the national runner-up last season and finished 10-2 on the season.

Shepherd advances to face West Chester of Pennsylvania.
