State playoffs resume for Lady Raiders
The Southern Vance girls basketball team is one win away from the state quarterfinals in Fayetteville.
Fifth-seeded Southern travels south to Elizabethtown Friday to meet No. 4 East Bladen in the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A playoffs.
The Raiders have posted 15 consecutive wins while East Bladen has won 10 straight since its only loss of the season against Clinton (23-4), which was eliminated on Wednesday by High Point Andrews (21-5).
Southern defeated No. 21 Elizabeth City Northeastern (9-12) 73-36 on Wednesday after a win over No. 28 Croatan (11-10) in the first round.
East Bladen defeated No. 29 Warren County (11-13) Monday before topping No. 13 North Pitt (18-7) by 20 points on Wednesday.
Southern is the only remaining Northern Carolina Conference team in the field after the elimination of No. 11 Bunn (19-7), which lost to No. 6 Kinston (22-2) on Wednesday. Kinston pounded Durham School of the Arts in the first round and Franklinton also lost on Monday to Trinity Wheatmore.
