Prep Roundup: Spartans earn road wins in soccer, lacrosse
Kerr-Vance is 3-1 on the season after a 3-2 varsity girls soccer win Friday at Trinity Academy of Raleigh.
Price Wester scored twice on corner kicks from Bryles Cutts and Cutts added the other goal for KVA.
The Spartans host Grace Christian of Raleigh on Monday.
KVA wins in New Bern
The Kerr-Vance varsity lacrosse team improved its record to 2-1 in a 9-4 victory over The Epiphany School in New Bern Friday evening.
The Spartans started strong, taking a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. John Robert Carr opened the scoring on an assist by Emil Bruce and Gabriel Carr and Sam Fuquay added unassisted goals in the first stanza.
The second quarter continued much the same with Sam Fuquay and Max Perry both scoring goals off of assists from Colin Pegram, leaving the Spartans with a 5-0 lead at the half.
“It was a great effort by the entire team,” KVA coach Scott Burnette said. “Our defense led to offense which allowed us to play our entire team tonight. At one point six of our nine field players were eighth-graders.”
Epiphany scored twice early in the third quarter, followed by an unassisted goal by Sam Fuquay.
Epiphany scored once more before Colin Pegram scored for the Spartans off of an assist by Fuquay.
At the end of three, the Spartans remained safely in the lead with a 7-3 score.
Epiphany scored once more in the fourth, before Fuquay and Pegram each scored unassisted goals to finish the scoring.
“It was a great job by Sam and Colin working together to get the goal in the net,” Burnette said.
Carr secured 12 ground balls in the game, and goalie Jordan Smith added 12 saves for KVA.
The Spartans return to action at home on Wednesday versus Roxboro Community School.
