Prep Roundup: Arrington, Vikings improve to 2-0

Mar. 05, 2014 @ 11:38 PM

Northern Vance pitcher Nate Arrington threw his second consecutive complete-game two-hitter on Wednesday and the Vikings (2-0) defeated visiting Southern Vance 7-2.

Arrington fanned 15 Raider batters, following a 13-strikeout performance last week against Warren County to open the season. The senior right-hander gave up one unearned run to Southern, which scored both of its runs in the first inning.

Northern tied it up in the bottom half of the first before plating three runs in the third and two in the fifth.
Eric Lemmond (1-for-1) and Jabe Montgomery (1-for-4) each had a pair of RBIs for the Vikings.

“We’re really struggling offensively,” said Northern head coach Benji Nelson. “We’re finding ways to get runs across though.”

The game marked the earliest meeting in a season between Northern and Southern since 2009. The crosstown rivals, no longer in the same conference, meet again March 19 at Southern and the schools’ softball teams meet today at Southern.

Northern’s baseball team will try to get a jump on the rain in the forecast for Friday and get in a game against Granville Central at home today at 4 p.m.

Southern is scheduled to visit J.F. Webb on Friday.
