Bracket play begins Friday for 16-and-under team
Mike Norwood’s Henderson/Vance 16-and-under Babe Ruth softball all-stars enter bracket play Friday at the Eastern N.C. State Tournament in Washington as a No. 1 seed. The team finished pool play with a 2-1 record to top the National Division after Thursday’s 4-0 win over Currituck.
Bracket play was rained out Thursday night and will resume Friday afternoon. Henderson/Vance faces the winner of East Beaufort-Nash Central.

The Henderson/Vance and Currituck 16-and-under teams each finished with 2-1 records in their division. Currituck posted wins over Cashie and Nash Central before the loss to Henderson/Vance.
Kelly Norwood struck out 11 for Henderson/Vance.
“She was hitting her corners, breaking the ball real well,” said Mike Norwood. “Did a good job keeping them off balance.”
Kelly Norwood and Katie McAllister each had two hits and Breanna Sikes, Kiana Alston, Heather Satterwhite, Annika Alicardi, Andrea Taylor, and Samantha Norwood each had one hit. Alicardi knocked in three runs.
