Familiar names top Henderson Invitational leaderboard

With the first day of competition in the books, a pair of familiar names are tied atop the Henderson Country Club Invitational standings.

Reigning champion Daniel Faulkner, a three-time winner, and his former Cape Fear Community College teammate, Steven Brame, each shot a 1-under 71 Saturday.

The final group tees off Sunday for the championship at approximately 1 p.m.

Faulkner edged Brame, a two-time winner, in a playoff to take the 2013 tournament title.

Blair Thomas is two shots back in third with a 73 and D.J. Matthews is fourth with a 74.

Delaine Branch, Wake Forest’s Mike Daniel and Brandon Hughes each are tied for fifth with 75s.

Dave Carver, Jerry Neal and Dr. Lewis each are tied atop the senior division with 78s and Berry Perry and Phillip Leonard lead the super senior flight, tied with 79s. Hut Wester is two shots back in the super senior division with an 81.
