Warren County’s 13-year-old Kyokushin fighter, Christian Buffaloe, recently earned a second-place finish in the youth division (12-13-years old) of the Kyokushin U.S. Weight Category Championship in Los Angeles.

By gaining a top-three spot, Buffaloe becomes a contender for the world title, held in April. There will be 1,500 competitors from around the world at the Tokyo event.

Buffaloe advanced to the finals in Los Angeles to face a three-time Ukraine national champion. Christian lost by a half point with two seconds remaining in the match.

There were competitors from nine countries in addition to the U.S. at the tournament, sponsored by the International Kyokushin Karate Organization in Tokyo.

A documentary telling the story of Christian and his father and trainer, Kenny Buffaloe, will be released in the spring. The film is being produced by acclaimed director Jochen Kunstler and will be entered in several film festivals around the world.
