Henderson/Vance teams bow out of district play

The Henderson/Vance 10-and-under and 8-and-under baseball all-stars were each eliminated from district play Saturday in Wake Forest.

The 10-and-under team was defeated by both West Raleigh and Holly Springs Saturday while the 8-and-unders fell to South Granville and Hillsborough.

Shane Ott had a double and Dustin Pulley and Tyler Darnell pitched for the Henderson/Vance 10-and-unders in a loss to West Raleigh before the Henderson/Vance squad was eliminated in a 17-9 loss to Holly Springs.

Javonte Waverly and Malcolm Gray were each 2-for-4 against Holly Springs and Waverly had a home run. Waverly and Gray also did the pitching with Waverly striking out two batters and Gray fanning five.

The 10-and-unders started district play Friday with a 13-5 win over South Granville.

Gray led Henderson/Vance at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance and Waverly was 2-for-4.

Darnell pitched three innings for Henderson/Vance, striking out five. Waverly and Ott also saw time on the mound. Waverly struck out three and Ott added two punchouts.

The Henderson/Vance 8-and-unders lost 9-4 to South Granville and 11-1 to Hillsborough in the double-elimination tourney.
