Prep Roundup: KVA tennis tops Faith Christian

The Kerr-Vance varsity tennis team defeated Faith Christian Tuesday, 7-2.

The Spartans improved to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the Eastern Plains Independent Conference and host Grace Christian of Raleigh Thursday.


No. 1 — FAITH’s Shelly Dunn def. Cassidy Tucker, 6-1, 6-1.
No. 2 — KVA’s Macy Lee Johnson def. Alex Cheney, 6-2, 7-5.
No. 3 — KVA’s Price Wester def. Olivia Collins, 6-3, 6-3.
No. 4 — KVA’s Maggie Thompson def. Marissa Pridgen, 6-0, 6-0.
No. 5 — KVA’s Mary Mills def. Molly Holloman, 6-2, 6-0.
No. 6 — KVA’s Katie Steg def. Jessie Reams, 6-0, 6-2.

No. 1 — FAITH’s Dunn and Cheney def. Tucker and Johnson, 8-4.
No. 2 — KVA’s Wester and Mills def. Collins and Pridgen, 8-4.
No. 3 — KVA’s Thompson and Steg def. 8-0.

KVA cross country runs in Cary

Kerr-Vance’s cross country team ran Tuesday in an Eastern Plains Independent Conference meet in Cary and Kayla Holder was the top girls finisher with a time of 19:14.

KVA’s Addison Mabry was fifth in a time of 24:57 and Aubrey Thompson was 35th with a mark of 32:56.

A.J. Holloway was 54th for the KVA boys (26:51).
KVA travels back to Cary next week for an EPIC meet hosted by Cary Christian.

Himmel records hat trick for Spartans
The Kerr-Vance junior varsity boys soccer team defeated Faith Christian Tuesday, 5-0.

Brian Himmel had a hat trick for KVA and Rafael Negron added the other two goals.

KVA head coach Jesus Peralta credited Gabriel Carr and Max Perry with good defensive play and said Jack Cheever and Nick Ellington did a good job creating offensive opportunities.
KVA is 3-3-1 overall and 1-1 in Eastern Plains Independent Conference play. The Spartans visit Ravenscroft today.
