Webb girls eliminated from league tourney
The J.F. Webb varsity girls, a four seed, were eliminated from the 3-A Carolina Conference Tournament Wednesday with a 78-32 loss at No. 1 Chapel Hill.
The Tigers stayed perfect on the season against league foes and host No. 3 Southern Vance in the final Friday.
Webb coach Kenneth Rogers said Wednesday’s first quarter was close, but the Tigers pulled away in the second.
“In the second quarter we started doing things we didn’t need to do, such as making turnovers, making some bad passes,” said Rogers. “Then we missed some shots that we need to make to beat a team like Chapel Hill.”
Webb advanced to the semifinals by defeating Northern Vance Monday. The Warriors (13-2) will play on the road Monday in the 3-A state playoffs.
