KVA eliminated from baseball tourney; Webb soccer out
Kerr-Vance was eliminated Wednesday in the first round of the N.C. Independent School Athletic Association 2-A state baseball playoffs, falling 10-0 at Davidson Day.
The 12th-seeded Spartans finished the season 8-8 overall. Fifth-seeded Davidson Day (17-4) advanced to meet First Assembly (13-8), a four-seed.
Wyatt Evans started for KVA and gave up nine unearned runs before he was relieved by Daniel Wilkerson, who pitched the fourth inning, allowing one run.
Banks Conde led the Spartans with one base hit.
“We just did not get base hits,” said Spartan coach Todd Wilkerson. “You cannot have errors in the field and then come in and not hit...We just didn’t back up our pitchers tonight.”
“I have had a young team the past two years and they are improving,” added Todd Wilkerson, who wrapped up his second season as KVA head coach. “They made the playoffs both years. They got in, a lot of teams didn’t make it in.”
Warriors shut out at Northern Guilford
J.F. Webb lost 7-0 at Northern Guilford Wednesday in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A state soccer playoffs.
Webb, a four-seed, wraps up the season at 9-12. Top-seeded Northern Guilford (16-1-3), the state’s third-ranked 3-A team overall, moves on to face No. 3 Gray’s Creek (10-6-1).
