Prep roundup: Spartan baseball makes state tourney field

Kerr-Vance slipped into the N.C. Independent School Athletic Association 2-A state tournament field as a 12-seed.

The Spartans (8-7) will face fifth-seeded Davidson Day (16-4) Wednesday at Hopewell High School in Huntersville.

Westchester Country Day (19-6) earned the top seed in the tourney, followed by Rocky Mount Academy (18-2), Faith Christian (21-3) and First Assembly (13-8).

KVA finished fourth in the Eastern Plains Independent Conference behind RMA, Faith and Parrott Academy.

Webb soccer headed to Northern Guilford

The J.F. Webb soccer team earned a four-seed in the 3-A state playoffs and will visit top-seeded Northern Guilford Wednesday.

The Warriors finished the regular season 9-11 overall. Northern Guilford is 15-1-3 and ranked third overall in the state behind Cardinal Gibbons and Charlotte Catholic.
