N.C. State redshirt sophomore Tremanisha Taylor won the women’s shot put Thursday at the 119th Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

The 2010 Southern Vance graduate topped her season-best mark with a throw of 53 feet, 11.75 inches to take the top spot by about an inch over Sandra Lemos, representing Turabo of Puerto Rico.

Taylor earned her second consecutive All-ACC shot put honor last weekend at the ACC Championships, finishing second to Florida State junior Chelsea Whalen. Taylor was also fourth in the discus, behind throwers from Florida State and Clemson and teammate Sequoia Watkins.

The Wolfpack women finished in third place with 82 points and notched their best finish at the league outdoor championships since 1986.

The Penn Relays continue Friday and Saturday. N.C. State is scheduled to compete in six more events before the NCAA Regional in Greensboro May 23.
