Vikings’ rally not enough in 3-2 soccer loss

The Northern Vance varsity soccer team lost 3-2 to Southern Durham Wednesday.

The visiting Spartans scored the winner with about 10 minutes to play on a shot that was intended as a cross.

Northern head coach Razvan Tegean said his team’s effort was better in the second half.

The Vikings trailed 2-0 at halftime before Jonathan Byrom scored an unassisted goal and Chris Pendergrass scored off of a Byrom corner about two minutes before Southern’s third goal.

Northern dropped to 4-6-0 overall and 1-2 in the 3-A Big Eight Conference. The Vikings host Northern Nash Friday at 5 p.m.
