Southern Vance did what it had to do Friday against Roanoke Rapids to remain in the logjam atop the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference standings.

The Raiders (5-5, 3-1), winners of three straight, scored twice in the fourth quarter to put away the Yellow Jackets (2-8, 0-4) on a soggy Senior Night at Raider Stadium.

South Granville’s 62-12 win over Warren County (5-5, 1-3) Friday also pushes the Vikings’ Northern Carolina record to 3-1. Southern has the tiebreaker over South Granville, but Bunn and Franklinton also have one loss in league play. The Bunn at Franklinton game Friday was postponed until Monday due to the threat of inclement weather.

Northern Vance’s 3-A Big Eight Conference game at Cedar Ridge was also postponed until Monday at 7 p.m.

Southern Durham knocked off J.F. Webb (2-8, 0-6) 56-7 Friday to remain tied atop the Big Eight standings with Orange, which defeated Cardinal Gibbons.

Southern Vance’s Qualik Shearin ran for 190 yards on 28 carries with two touchdowns and quarterback Ty-Traveon Roberts found receiver Shawn Henderson for a 39-yard score to put the Raiders up two touchdowns in the first half.

Roberts, who had 80 yards on the ground, also had a 4-yard rushing score and kicker Will Pernell was perfect on points after.

Southern led 14-7 in the fourth quarter when Shearin scored his second touchdown that was set up by his 52-yard scamper on third down earlier in the drive.

The Raiders close the regular season at Franklinton next week while Warren County visits Bunn and Roanoke Rapids hosts South Granville.
