Kerr-Vance concluded its season Friday with a state quarterfinals loss to Oakwood School at Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh.

No. 10 KVA lost 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) to No. 2 Oakwood of Greenville and finished the season 12-11 overall.

Senior Bryles Cutts led the Spartans in the N.C. Independent School Athletic Association Class 1-A tourney loss with nine kills, 20 digs and an ace.

Also contributing for the Spartans were Hannah Faulkner (12 digs, two aces, kill), Kassidy Dickerson (11 digs, three assists, kill, ace), Sophia Naradzay (11 digs, three kills), Rachel Ross (five assists, kill, ace), and Rebecca Ross (23 digs, two assists, ace, kill).

Noel Faulkner filled in for second-year head coach Randi McMillen, who was unable to coach or attend any of the team’s conference or state tournament matches because of health reasons.

Faulkner was complimentary of the program that McMillen is building at KVA, from the middle school to the varsity team. He added that the Spartan players dedicated their last four matches to their head coach.

The Spartans will lose seniors Rebecca Ross and Jessica Moss in addition to Cutts, but will return four starters.

“As a team, they really grew together,” said Noel Faulkner. “When you look at them as a team, you could see the development across each and every player. Each girl understood their role and accepted that role and you could see that develop throughout the year.”
