Cheluca, Sharpe score twice in Vikings' win over Raiders
Irving Cheluca and Joseph Sharpe each scored twice and Northern Vance downed Southern Vance 7-1 Monday at Viking Stadium.
Northern (1-1) led 3-0 at halftime and scored twice less than five minutes into the second half to make it 5-0.
The Vikings outshot the Raiders 34-15 on the match.
“We did a good job playing the ball, keeping possession,” said Northern head coach Razvan Tegean. “We had a lot of opportunities.”
Sharpe, a junior, also added two assists.
“He played well in the midfield and had some great balls he played,” said Tegean. “He played well tonight.”
Cheluca, a freshman, scored Northern’s first two goals.
Sharpe set up Cheluca’s second goal in the 36th minute.
“His second goal was a beautiful goal,” said Tegean. “Perfect cross from Joseph Sharpe, a really nice finish.”
Eric Lemmond, Jonathan Byrom and Julian Perry also scored for Northern and Byrom (2) and Lemmond added assists.
Lorenzo Ortiz tallied the lone goal for Southern in the 73rd to make it 7-1.
No longer in the same conference or classification, the next Northern-Southern match is next Tuesday. The Raiders aren’t scheduled to play again until then.
Next for Northern is an away match at Northern Nash Thursday.
