Three games into its first lacrosse season, Northern Vance found the net.

The Vikings lost 18-2 at home Friday to Kerr-Vance as Connor Pendergrass and Lucas Hamrick accounted for the first two goals scored in the program’s history.

“It means we’re getting better,” said Northern coach Dan Whittacre. “It means we’re getting it together as far as being a brand new team. So we’re very excited about that.”

Northern started the season with a 17-0 loss at KVA before dropping a 3-A Big Eight Conference match at Orange, 16-0.

Whittacre said Mykel Williams had a good game in goal for the Vikings.

“He really had a lot of good saves,” said Whittacre. “We’re glad he’s stepped up his game.”

KVA improved to 4-1 on the season and was led in scoring by Sam Fuquay with six goals. Fuquay also added an assist and Colin Pegram tallied four goals with two assists.

“He’s really worked hard and it’s showing,” KVA head coach Scott Burnette said of Fuquay, a junior attackman.

“Our defense played outstanding, allowing us to transition up the field,” added Burnette.

The Spartans, who lost eight seniors from last season’s squad, had seven eighth-graders on the field at one point in Friday’s match.

Rounding out the scoring for KVA were Joseph Everette (two goals, four assists), John Carr (two goals, assist), Max Perry (two goals), Gabriel Carr (goal, assist), Richard Allen (goal). Emil Bruce and Raphael Negron added assists.
