Spartan girls pick up first league win; boys fall 69-52

The Kerr-Vance varsity girls basketball team improved to 3-0 Wednesday and 1-0 in the Eastern Plains Independent Conference with a 32-19 win at Rocky Mount Academy.

Rebecca Ross scored 18 points and Price Wester and Rachel Ross each had seven to round out the Spartans’ scoring.
“She really put us on her back and got us the win,” KVA head coach Brian Russell said of Rebecca Ross.

KVA held Rocky Mount Academy to 10 points through three quarters.

The Spartans visit Trinity of Raleigh Friday.

KVA falls at Rocky Mount Academy

Kerr-Vance dropped a 69-52 decision at Rocky Mount Academy in varsity boys basketball action Wednesday.

The Spartans (1-2) were outscored 15-5 in the fourth quarter of the Eastern Plains Independent Conference opener.

KVA head coach Dave Carrier said his team ran out of gas, but put forth its best performance of the season so far.

R.J. Hunt scored 26 points for KVA and Derrian Markham had 21. Hunt is averaging 27 points through three games.

KVA’s next game is Friday at Trinity of Raleigh.
