Lady Raiders roll over Northwest Halifax, 58-28
Southern Vance responded to a sluggish start Thursday against Northwest Halifax with a 15-2 run to end the first half.
Northwest built an early 13-5 lead, but Southern seized control with the second quarter run, rolling from there and scoring a 58-28 on Day 1 of the Raiders’ Holiday Classic.
“They just have to remember that this game is still played the same way,” said Southern coach Amy Simpson. “We just have to settle down and get into the way that we need to play the basketball game.”
Southern scored the final seven points of the second half, highlighted by a Breona Jones 3-pointer and fastbreak layup, successively.
Jones led the Raiders with 15 points and six assists. Carslin Talley and Moesha Sneed both had seven points.
Simpson said she was pleased with the play of Mikayla Sellers, not normally known for producing offensively. She finished with six points and seven rebounds.
“She had the initiative to get out there and want to score tonight,” said Simpson.
