Local Roundup: Hayes inches closer to 1,000 point-benchmark in Colts’ loss

Crossroads Christian’s Jessi Hayes will have to wait one more game to reach 1,000 career points.

Hayes tallied 14 points in the Colts’ 46-37 loss to Community Christian Tuesday, leaving the senior nine points shy of the milestone.

Hayes also had 13 rebounds in the game. Caroline May added eight points and Michaela Nicholas had six.

Crossroads, which dropped to 4-8 in league play, led 22-18 at halftime before being outscored 20-6 in the third quarter.

The Colts travel to Trinity Academy on Friday.

Lady Raiders go down against Chapel Hill

Southern Vance led Chapel Hill 21-20 at halftime Tuesday, but the Tigers came away with a regular season sweep of the Raiders, winning 57-37.

Southern dropped to 16-3 overall and 4-2 in 3-A Carolina Conference play. Chapel Hill is unbeaten in league play.

Breona Jones led the Raiders with 18 points and Carslin Talley added seven.

Southern visits Cardinal Gibbons Thursday.

KVA girls fall in Raleigh

Kerr-Vance fell 41-28 at St. David’s Tuesday, trailing 25-16 at halftime.

“They really killed us on the offensive boards and got a lot of second chances,” said KVA coach Brian Russell.

Cristin Abbott, Rachel Ross and Rebecca Ross each had six points for the Spartans, who host Parrott Academy Wednesday.
