Prep Roundup: Warriors compete in cross country meet

J.F Webb ran in a 3-A Big Eight Conference cross country meet against Cedar Ridge and Chapel Hill Tuesday in Hillsborough.

Sophomore Jeremiah Williamson led the Webb boys with a 27th-place finish and a season-best time of 21:59. He was followed for the Warriors by Brian Messner in 34th (23:31) and Justin Perry in 37th (23:26).

Freshman Emily Ayscue led the Webb girls, finishing in 41st in a time of 28:55 followed by senior Hayes Moss (28:57). MeLina Logan finished in 30:23 in her first competition.

Chapel Hill won the boys meet with 23 points followed by Cedar Ridge (36) and Webb (85).

The standings were the same for the girls. Chapel Hill had 15 points, Cedar Ridge had 50 and Webb tallied 85.

Spartans drop match to Cary Christian

Kerr-Vance’s varsity tennis team lost 6-3 to Cary Christian Tuesday, dropping the Spartans’ record to 10-4 overall and 3-4 in the Eastern Plains Independent Conference.

Northern falls 5-2 in Pittsboro

Northern Vance scored the first goal Wednesday at Northwood before the Chargers scored five unanswered in their 5-2 Big Eight Conference soccer win.

Northern dropped to 4-7-1 overall and 1-3 in league play.

After a scoreless first half, the Vikings went up 1-0 on a Jonathan Byrom penalty kick.

Northern scored in the game’s final minute on a Joseph Sharpe header from a Byrom corner kick.

The Vikings host Chapel Hill today at 6 p.m.
