Vance Charter boys, girls get wins

The Vance Charter School girls and boys basketball teams were both victorious Dec. 6 when they faced the River Mill Jaguars at the Aycock Rec Center.

In the first game, the girls started off slow. It took the second quarter for the Lady Knights to get on the board, and they finished the half ahead 10-3.

In the second half, the VCS girls came out with some solid defense and allowed the Jags to score only seven more points the remainder of the game.

The Lady Knights dumped in 24 points to send the Jaguars packing for the night. Anna Freuler was the high scorer for VCS with 11 in the 24-10 win.

The Knight boys had a tough match against River Mill. The Jags were up four at the end of the first half.

VCS began to heat up offensively in the second. The score was deadlocked at 36 at the end of regulation.

In the three-minute overtime, the Knights’ defense stiffened, allowing only a single free throw by the Jags in the extra period. The Knights won the game 41-37.

Taylor Currin led all scorers for VCS with 10 points.
