Raiders split at KVA wrestling meet

Kerr-Vance and Southern Vance both fell to Roanoke Rapids Tuesday in a Spartan-hosted tri-meet. The Raiders also had a 37-24 win over KVA.

Damonte Blash, Kavoris Perry and Sikem Caceres had contested wins over the Spartans.

Blash defeated Jared Hicks 15-13 at 120 pounds, Perry pinned James Averette 1:24 into the 152-pound match and Caceres defeated Caleb Weiss 15-9 at 113.

Daniel Currin picked up the Spartans’ lone contested win over the Raiders with a pin of Terrence Branche at 170, 40 seconds in.

Currin and Weiss both had pins in KVA’s 57-12 loss to Roanoke Rapids.

Southern fell 54-21 to the Yellow Jackets. Caceres, Perry and Xavier Gregory each had contested wins for the Raiders.

Perry’s win came in a 5-2 decision while Caceres and Gregory (220) both had pins.

Southern hosts the Raider Duals on Saturday while KVA heads to High Point today for a quad meet.
