Area teams compete in Mideast golf regional

Golf seasons ended for J.F. Webb as well as Northern and Southern Vance Thursday at the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A Mideast Regional.

Each school had one representative at the Deep Springs Country Club event near Reidsville.

Webb’s Taylor Cook had the best area score, recording a 100. Northern’s Jamie Vaughn and Southern’s Eric Hunt also competed.

The top individual score went to Burlington Williams’ William Register, who shot a 72. Williams also claimed the overall team title with a 305.

Williams was followed in the team standings by Rockingham County (315) and Southern Lee (321). Williams, Rockingham and Southern Lee each qualify for the state championship.

The best Carolina Conference finisher was Cardinal Gibbons, which took sixth with a 325. Chapel Hill and Orange finished at the bottom of the standings with a 364 and 431, respectively. 

Gibbons’ Justin Curis qualified for the state match, shooting 76.
