Local Roundup: Northern tops Southern in the pool
Northern Vance swept each relay and claimed every individual race but two in Friday’s swim meet against Southern Vance.
The Viking boys won 194-44 and the girls topped Southern 141-25.
Northern continued to post or improve upon consideration times for regionals.
Madison Bobbitt recorded regional consideration times in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle. The Viking girls relay teams also have consideration times in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay.
All three Northern boys relay teams have regional consideration times.
Northern’s Dakota Parrish topped the field in the 200 individual medley Friday with a consideration time of 2:49.86.
Ethan Parham bettered his consideration mark in the 100 fly and 500 free as did Sam Long in the 100 breaststroke. Long also won the 200 free.
Other boys winners for Northern were Evan Lowery (50 free, 100 free) and Ray Cheever (100 backstroke).
Harley Owen was the lone Southern swimmer to finish on top Friday, winning the 100 free and 100 backstroke.
Joining Bobbitt and Owen as an individual winner for Northern were Mallory Faulkner (200 free, 100 breaststroke), Sarah Hull (200 IM) and Logan Brinker (50 free).
Viking wrestlers compete in Knightdale
Northern Vance finished 10th out of 21 schools at Saturday’s Pruitt Rainey Invitational in Knightdale.
Orange came out on top followed by Croatan, Panther Creek, Southern Durham, and Sanderson.
The Most Outstanding Wrestler was Nathan Allison of Panther Creek at 120 pounds.
Northern’s Johnathan Norton earned a second-place finish at 106 pounds, falling to Joe Scott of Orange by decision.
Jamal Kearney was fourth for the Vikings at 138 and Mykel Williams was fourth at 285.
Spartan middle school boys fall to Cary Academy
The Kerr-Vance middle school boys basketball team lost to Cary Academy Monday, 52-31.
Drew Griggs led the Spartans with 12 points and Wil Short had eight.
KVA’s “Blue” squad visits Ravenscroft Wednesday at 5 p.m.
