Local roundup: Webb golf takes third in Granville Cup

The J.F. Webb golf team took third in the Granville Cup Tuesday against county rivals Granville Central and South Granville.

Granville Central won the nine-hole affair with a 183, followed by South Granville with 191 and Webb with 225.

Granville Central’s Jonathan Price was the low medalist, firing a 40.

Webb, without leader Taylor Cook, was led by Michael Hancock’s 47.

KVA soccer goes down at Parrott

Kerr-Vance fell 3-1 at Parrott Academy Tuesday.

Shannon Ayscue scored the Spartans’ goal off of a corner sent in by Bryles Cutts.

KVA is back in action at home today against Faith Christian.

Spartan JV soccer earns draw

The Kerr-Vance junior varsity soccer team tied 1-1 with Parrott Academy Tuesday.

Nicole Dunkley scored the goal for the Spartans on an assist from Holly Steg.

KVA tennis defeated by Parrott

The Kerr-Vance tennis team lost 9-0 to Parrott Academy Tuesday.

The Spartans hosted Greenfield on Wednesday.

Spartan middle school lacrosse gets win

The Kerr-Vance middle school lacrosse team improved its record to 2-1 for the year, defeating Roxboro Community School Tuesday afternoon.

The Spartans took a 3-1 halftime lead off of goals from Brian Himmell, Max Perry and Drew Griggs.

The second half proved a stalemate with each team scoring one goal for the 4-2 Spartan victory.  Chase Layton scored for KVA off of an assist from Max Perry, his second assist of the game.

“We did a great job controlling the game and winning ground balls,” Spartan Coach Scott Burnette said. “We have some things to work on, but all and all it was a great effort.”
