Prep Roundup: Spartans get Senior Night sweep

Bryles Cutts, Jessica Moss and Rebecca Ross were honored on Senior Night for Kerr-Vance Thursday as the Spartans defeated Rocky Mount Academy in three sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-15).

Cutts finished with 22 digs, nine kills, two blocks, and an ace.

Also leading the Spartans were Hannah Faulkner (13 digs, four kills, two aces), Rachel Ross (15 digs, five assists, four kills, block, ace) and Sophia Naradzay (11 digs, five kills, four blocks, ace).

KVA improved to 11-7 overall and hosts Parrott Academy Tuesday.

JV Spartans improve to 12-2

Kerr-Vance’s junior varsity volleyball team is 12-2 after Thursday’s 2-0 (25-11, 25-11) win over Rocky Mount Academy.

The Spartans’ leaders were Ashley Dickerson (six aces, 14 digs, four kills), Caroline Hoyle (three aces, 13 digs, five assists), Kassidy Dickerson (three aces, 16 digs, six assists, one kill), and Sophia Naradzay (four aces, 21 digs, six kills, one block).

KVA tennis falls to RMA

The Kerr-Vance varsity tennis team was defeated by Rocky Mount Academy Thursday 6-3.

The Spartans are 10-5 overall and 3-5 in conference play and visit Parrott Academy Tuesday.

Spartan cross country runs at Parrott

The Kerr-Vance cross country team ran at Parrott Academy Thursday.

Kayla Holder led the Spartan girls with a second-place finish with a time of 19:30. Addison Mabry was eighth in a time of 24:26 and Aubrey Thompson took 33rd with a mark of 31 minutes.

For KVA’s boys, A.J. Holloway was 41st with a time of 23:56 and Jacob Goswick was 56th with a time of 28:47.

KVA runs again Tuesday in Rocky Mount.

Spartans split in JV tennis

Kerr-Vance’s junior varsity tennis team split a pair of recent decisions, winning 6-3 over Louisburg Wednesday and falling 5-4 to Cary Academy Monday.

The Spartans, 5-7 overall, visited Rocky Mount Academy Thursday.

Rams knock off Terrell Lane in double OT

The Henderson Middle School soccer team defeated Terrell Lane Middle School Thursday, 2-1, in double overtime.

Isidro Vargas had the game-winner for the Rams, who improved to 3-0-1 overall.

Vladimir Labra also scored a goal for HMS, which was led defensively by goalkeeper Thyheim Smith.

HMS has two games next week.
