Ask a Ranger: Fun, fireworks at Kerr Lake event
The biggest event that occurs at Kerr Lake State Recreation Area is the fireworks display.
The event is put on by the Vance County Tourism Department and is a big hit for all who attend.
In addition to food vendors and a live band, North Carolina State Parks also provided environmental education programs for youths. This included games, coloring and a butterfly and caterpillar photo op board.
Children had fun while learning all about butterflies and moths.
This event is a cherished opportunity for the community and campers to picnic, swim, commune with family and friends, and enjoy a spectacular fireworks show.
Thanks to the tireless attentive care and hard work that our maintenance, rangers, local law enforcement, paramedics, firemen, rescue squad, and other volunteers. The event went off without a hitch.
It should be noted that this was the last free Fourth of July event at Kerr Lake SRA. Starting in 2015, Kerr Lake SRA will be charging for the event held at Satterwhite Point. The price charged will be the same as day-use fees. We will charge $6 per vehicle and $4 per vehicle for seniors.
Many events and programs are still to come here at Kerr Lake SRA. We have upcoming programs for the 4-H, YMCA, and Boys and Girls Club as well as weekend programs for the public and campers.
