Vance-Granville’s golf season concluded April 13 at The Emerald Golf Club in New Bern.

The Vanguards finished fourth in the Region 10 Division II Conference Championship behind Surry Community College, Patrick Henry Community College and Johnston Community College.

Chandler White of Surry was the top individual golfer in the National Junior College Athletic Association event.

Vance-Granville’s Pierce Isley and Tyler Woodside each finished in the top 15. Isley was 11th (79-84 — 163) and Woodside finished 13th (86-85 — 171).

The regional meet marked the end of a Vanguards career for Woodside, a J.F. Webb graduate.

“It’s a lot of fun being involved in that,” Woodside said of representing Vance-Granville, “and trying to build it up for the future.”

Henderson’s Brett Greenway and Josh Mercer also represented the Vanguards, who are coached by Bobby Paff.

Oxford’s Isley and Woodside each posted strong showings this season with Isley finishing in the top 10 at the Central Carolina Cougar Classic March 14 and Woodside winning the Johnson Community College Spring Invitational two weeks later.
