ECU nets 20 basketball wins for first time in 59 years

East Carolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the postseason tournament Saturday with a 75-54 win over Rider.

The Pirates improved their overall record to 20-12, marking the first 20-win season at ECU since the 1953-1954 season.

Maurice Kemp had 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Pirates and Ty Armstrong finished with 20 points in front of a Minges Coliseum crowd of close to 4,000.

ECU hosts the winner of the Kent State-Loyola (Md.) game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
