On the Record: 'We're not going to fold up the tent'

The Southern Vance baseball team hasn't had the season it envisioned.

The Raiders haven't won a conference game and the roster has dwindled to nine players. But head coach Tony McGhee remains optimistic and has no intentions of laying down for rival Northern Vance.

“We have to be ready to play,” McGhee said after Tuesday's loss to Cardinal Gibbons. “We’re not going to fold up the tent. We’re going to go over there and try to win it.”

The game was to be played Friday, but was moved to Monday because of inclement weather.

Southern led the previous meeting 6-2 entering the top of the seventh inning before the Vikings stormed back for the win.

Northern currently sits fourth in the 3-A Carolina Conference standings, poised for its second consecutive state playoff appearance after a decade drought.
