Made free throws equal wins for N.C. State

N.C. State’s best days at the free throw line have come in wins over North Carolina and Duke with State shooting 20-of-23 in both games.

The Wolfpack coaches and players didn’t spend much time talking about the performance at the line after Saturday’s victory over UNC, but shooting well from the charity stripe and winning is no coincidence for State.

The Wolfpack has shot less than 60 percent at the line in three of its four losses. At Michigan, N.C. State had only nine attempts, shooting 66.7 percent.

State attempted more than 12 free throws in only the Wake Forest loss. And in that game, the Wolfpack shot 56 percent.

It’s also no coincidence that all four losses have come away from the friendly backdrops at PNC Arena.

State has one road test this week, Tuesday at Virginia, before hosting Miami Saturday.
