Webb takes in Greensboro Coliseum
The Webb basketball team got a look Monday at the ongoing Greensboro Coliseum renovations while competing in the MLK Day Classic.
The Coliseum is undergoing a $24 million facelift that will see Phase one, which includes the installation of blue, cushioned seating and an LED scoreboard, completed by ACC tourney time in March.
Webb had the second game of the day, in between Charlotte Christian vs Greenfield and High Point Christian vs Greensboro Page.
Junior guard Tyrek Beverly called playing in the Coliseum the experience of a lifetime.
But it wasn’t the Warriors’ first trot onto the floor of a major arena.
In December, Webb shot around in the University of South Carolina’s 18,000 seat Colonial Life Arena. The Warriors were in Columbia for the Chick-fil-A Classic and took the court after a Gamecocks’ women’s basketball game.
“I’m just telling you. As a coach, I got goosebumps watching the kids shoot,” said Webb coach Leo Brunelli. “And I obviously I took a couple of jump shots too. Just because.”
Next stop: Fayetteville’s Crown Coliseum for the NCHSAA 3-A regionals. Then Webb will look to cap its stadium tour with a state title in the Dean Dome March 16.
