Southern needs help for an outright title
Southern Vance is going to need some help to claim an outright 2-A Northern Carolina Conference football championship as the regular season winds down Friday.
The Raiders need Warren County to defeat Bunn in order to claim an outright title since the Wildcats own the tie-breaker over Southern.
Southern, which has a win over South Granville, clinches at least a share of the title with a victory over Franklinton. Sharing the title is still possible with a loss to Franklinton if Warren County defeats Bunn and Roanoke Rapids beats South Granville.
Bunn and South Granville are both heavy favorites Friday.
If Roanoke Rapids were to upset South Granville and Southern and Bunn each won, the title goes to the Wildcats.
A loss to Franklinton would cost Southern a top-three finish and an automatic state playoff bid although the Raiders would still have a good shot at making the postseason.
A three-way tie between Southern, South Granville and Bunn would mean the teams draw for playoff seeding.
