Cardinal Gibbons won the second girls soccer state title in school history Saturday, topping Hickory St. Stephens 3-0.

Duke recruit Christina Gibbons scored twice to lead the Crusaders, of the Carolina Conference, to the 3-A title at N.C. State's Dail Soccer Field. All-American junior Morgan Reid also found the net.

Gibbons finished the season 22-2-1 and played for a state championship for the fourth time. The Crusaders won the 2-A title in 2007.

Gibbons dominated Tri-County competition in conference play this season, outscoring our local teams 39-0 in five matches. It likely would have been 48-0 had Southern Vance not forfeited a game.
