Hicks' state title performance put in perspective

How good was J.F. Webb's Isaiah Hicks' 34-point, 30-rebound state championship performance?

The 34 points scored in Webb's win over Statesville ties Hicks for seventh place with former Tar Heel Henrik Rodl for most points scored in a state final since 1986. Rodl did it at Chapel Hill High School as a German exchange student. Shawn Alexander of T.C. Roberson holds the record with 41 points. He did it in 1998.

The 30 rebounds set a new state championship record, shattering current Miami center Reggie Johnson's 23 boards, snatched for Winston-Salem Prep in 2008. It also tied the all-time state record for rebounds in a playoff game. Harry Burrus did it for Mattamuskeet in the 1984 1-A regional semifinal.
