Letter: Child abuse prevention awareness
To the editor:
Our children are future parents, workers and leaders. The future prosperity of our community relies on their healthy development. When children are raised in stimulating, nurturing environments they thrive and grow up to become successful, contributing members of our community. Investment in programs that build strong families and help children succeed is an investment in our community’s future.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It is a time when communities come together to raise awareness of child abuse prevention and show support for programs and activities that help our children become successful in all areas of their lives.
During the month of April, Vance County DSS Children’s Services will join thousands of communities throughout North Carolina and the nation in recognizing Child Abuse Prevention Month by displaying a pinwheel garden. The pinwheel is the symbol of child abuse prevention, representing community efforts to provide children with the safe, stable, nurturing relationships they need for healthy development. Children’s Services, located at 305 Young Street, will display our pinwheel garden throughout the month of April.
The pinwheel reminds us of the bright future all children deserve. It represents our hope that all children in our community have the stable, loving relationships they need to become successful adults who contribute to our community.
