Letter: Nomad type not wanted on City Council
To the editor:
I was appalled to read the article in the newspaper (“No cause found in election protest,” Sept. 18) about the Vance County election board dismissing the protest by Garry Daeke concerning the valid address for candidate Geraldine Champion. She’s running in Ward 3 for a City Council seat.
So I guess you can run for office as follows:
• Live in two places.
• Have no permanent address.
• Pay no taxes.
• Pay no water bill.
• Pay no electric bill.
• Make no monetary contributions to the city (in the form of taxes).
• But you can run for office, make daily decisions for us as an elected official and in general tell all of us that we need to pay our taxes, pay our water bill and do all the other things property owners and citizens of this town normally do.
And if you don’t win in Ward 3 this time, just move your car and your clothes to another part of town and then run for office there the next time.
Do we want someone without a permanent address representing us in Henderson? You might but many citizens do not and that is the reason for this letter.
