Letter: Contest challenge issued
To the editor:
I would like to suggest a contest to find a few ideas that if followed would lead Vance County to a new and better time.
What is the one change that in your opinion will fix, correct or improve Vance County? Assume you have been given complete authority to make that one change to anything in Vance County regardless of cost, politics and personalities.
Contest rules: The contest is open to all Vance County registered voters. Only one entry allowed per voter. Entries should be submitted to the Dispatch’s editorial page for publication. Entries must adhere to the Dispatch’s letter policies, printed at the lower left of this page. Entries must be submitted from today until Sept. 8, 2013.
Contest judging: The first level of judging is in the court of public opinion.
The second level of judging could be by the past participants of the Leadership Vance program who are registered voters of Vance County and are not now or have not been elected to city council, county commissioners or school board or appointed to any governmental or quasi-governmental board.
Contest winnings: The authors of the top suggestions win recognition and self pride in knowing others favor their idea (and maybe a paper certificate suitable for framing). They’ll also see their suggestions republished in the Dispatch.
Within the framework of its policies on letters, The Dispatch has agreed to participate and I hope the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce will support this contest.
