Letter: Ducky Derby thanks
To the editor:
Franklin-Granville-Vance Smart Start, Inc. would like to thank all those who helped our agency with our fundraiser, the Ducky Derby Festival, Sept. 21.
The list is long, but we need to thank all those who stepped up to help. Thanks to our Ducky Derby sponsors: Super Duck Duke Energy Progress, Top Ducks Chick-fil-A, Walmart and Rose Oil Company. Our Feathered Friends were Dataforge, Greystone Concrete, The Rogers Group, Humphries Construction Company, Sunset Gardens, McDonald’s and Crosscreek Outdoor Supplies.
Our Quacker Backers were the City of Henderson, including the police department and the fire department, WIZS-1450 AM, Elman Hypnosis, Tots-N-More and the Downtown Development Commission. And thank you to the businesses that helped sell tickets at their sites: The Daily Dispatch, Dot’s Hallmark, Greenway’s, Authentic Charcoal Grille, Lotus Lounge and the State Employees Credit Union, as well many child care programs.
Thanks to all our partners in local government: Henderson City Manager Ray Griffin, Mayor Pete O’Geary, the N.C. Department of Transportation and Safe Kids. Thank you to our volunteers from the Optimist Club and the Key Club at Northern Vance High School who came and helped us.
And additional big thanks go to assistant fire chief Steve Cordell and all the firefighters who helped us with the “wet run” to perfect our race, as well as the final event. We could not have done this without you.
Kudos to the FGV Smart Start board of directors who led our effort and believed that we could indeed race ducks on Garnett Street. Thank you to a great staff at our agency, who worked long and hard as a team to pull together at this event. And a big thank you to all who bought tickets and attended the Ducky Derby Festival 2013. As we say at Smart Start, you all are “Champions for Children.”
The letter-writer is executive director of FGV Smart Start.
