Letter: God gives instruction

To the editor:

The first church declared “We are Christ’s body,” meaning we are His hands, His feet, His voice; going, serving and preaching in gospel power to the broken and lost. We are His instruments just as He was His Father’s instrument. Jesus’ last words before ascending weren’t a request but a direct command: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel!” Go and do!

Christ, Abraham, Moses, Matthew, Paul and all the saints before obeyed God.

Can we claim obedience yet not go? That we care for the poor but do not give and comfort? That we are just yet allow and take advantage of injustice? And that we are holy yet revel in worldly pleasures? Who are we to believe that simply acknowledging that Jesus is the son of God will assure our place in heaven?

In the book of James it is written, “Even the demons believe and tremble at their coming fate.”

No my friends, true believers in Christ are obedient to His word and produce good works. Yes, God is loving and merciful, but He is also just. And He will carry out His justice exactly as scripture declares. The lukewarm slackers and disobedient will not see heaven. This is truth. What foolishness for Christians to teach and believe that because they once recited a few words, were baptized in water and attend church services, that they qualify for heaven. Only a fool doesn’t fear God’s justice, for the Bible says, “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God!”
