Letter: Donations at Relay help ACTS
To the editor:
On the weekend of June 14-15, we observed the Relay For Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, at Southern Vance High School. As a part of this observation, luminaries were sold in memory of someone who had died from cancer, or in honor of someone who is a survivor of cancer. These luminaries were a bit different in they do not contain sand as an anchor, but donated canned goods for the hungry and needy of our community, and the candle holder and candles were placed on top of these canned goods.
All of the collected food items that were donated on behalf of Relay For Life were donated to Area Christians Together in Service to supplement the soup kitchen and food pantry.
I’m thankful to everyone who helped with this project by donating food items, collecting these items, by volunteering vehicles to transport and deliver these precious gifts to ACTS. Some of those helping hands are individuals who benefit from the soup kitchen five days a week.
Without the support of the community, ACTS would not be able to continue this ministry to feed the hungry of Vance County. We’re thankful to everyone for generous support in the past and ask for continued support in the future.
May God bless our supporters and their generosity.
