To the Editor:

Operation Christmas Child 2012 was a huge success. Reporting results from the Granville County Relay Center at Tabb’s Creek netted 1,804 shoeboxes and the Vance County Relay Center at North Henderson Baptist Church (which included Vance, Franklin and some of Warren County) netted 3,341 shoeboxes for a grand total of 5,145 shoeboxes. There were 3,835 shoe boxes were collected in 2011.

Final numbers for 2012 have not been released by Samaritan’s Purse but the Rev. Franklin Graham did report they had reached 100 million shoeboxes since beginning in 1993. So with that being said, they will definitely surpass their goal of 100 million.

These shoeboxes will be shipped to over 130 countries all over the world and will reach children that would have received little to nothing for Christmas. Our area has been truly blessed to have been able to participate in a mission that requires so little effort on our behalf but touches so many lives.

Let’s stop to count our blessings and reflect on the reason for the season, that being to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
