Letter: Recognizing public service
To the editor:
Across the United States and in communities like Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties, federal, state, military, county and local government employees serve and protect our nation everyday.
During Public Service Recognition Week, May 4-10, we gratefully acknowledge their service.
I want to personally thank the 328 active and retired federal workers in Vance County. Of the 328 total, 243 are retired employees and 51 are employed by the U.S. Postal Service.
The Farm Service Agency has worked to serve our farmers over the years in so many ways. Also the U.S. Postal Service, the Department of Defense, the Public Health and other agencies such as the air traffic controllers at nearby Raleigh-Durham International have served.
These people provide so many services each day. We may not realize all that America’s public servants do for us on a daily basis. Let’s not take for granted the services they provide. During Public Service Recognition Week, and throughout the year, please take time to say “thank you” to public employees in our community.
