Letter: Success at meet aided by many

To the Editor:

Our recent Project Lift After School Program was a success because of many people and organizations helping in the 2013 Virginia State Bench Press Championships held at the Barry Walker Fitness Center in Hopewell, Va., on March 9.

Those who were instrumental include Dr. Larry Webb and Sharon Turner at Eaton-Johnson Middle School; Freezer Maid of Henderson; Burger King and Carolina Quality; Bullock & Associates, Inc.; Sheetz Corporation; M.R. Williams, Inc.; and Joyce Jefferson, Vanessa Jenkins and Hawkins Real Estate with Erskine Hawkins.

We are grateful to dedicated coaches Bobby Jones, Harold Davis, Jeanette Bell, Wanda Burwell, Lewis Brodie, Darnell Lewis and Steven Dailey. We received help in the form of vans for transportation to and from the meet through Dr. William Garner of New Birth Christian Temple Church of Franklinton and Dr. Raphael Holloman of New Beginnings Ministries.

Project Lift also sponsored a fundraising raffle drawing on March 7. The winners included Theresa Watson (first, $75), Jeanette Bell (second, dinner for two at Cracker Barrel) and Joyce Jefferson (third, $10 gas card).

We say “hats off” to The Daily Dispatch sports department for their excellent coverage of Project Lift over the past 15 years.
