Letter: DAV fundraiser deemed a success
To the Editor:
As commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 97, and on behalf of all members of the chapter, I wanted to share about a recent event.
We were pleased and thankful to the patrons of Henderson’s Golden Corral for their donations during our annual fundraiser Nov. 1-12. We appreciated their generosity and concern for American disabled veterans.
The fundraiser is an annual event at all of the nation’s Golden Corral locations. The weekly fundraising ends with “Military Appreciation Monday” and a free dinner is provided for all veterans who have served in the military in our nation’s defense. This was the 12th annual event and over 1,500 meals were served. This serving of such a large number of veterans was made possible with the help of Kittrell Job Corps and local Boy Scout troops. They assisted in the seating and bussing of tables to be able to serve each veteran that attended.
I would like to thank them for volunteering to assist with the appreciation dinner. During the 12-day fundraising, I would also like to thank the DAV Auxiliary Chapter 67 and several concerned citizens that volunteered their time to make the fundraising a success.
On Dec. 14, Chapter 97 and Disabled American Citizens recognized the management and staff of the Henderson Golden Corral for their outstanding support of Military Appreciation Monday.
The DAV is dedicated to a single purpose: Building better lives for disabled American veterans and their families.
The DAV meets every second Monday at 6 p.m. at the Senior Center on Garnett Street in Henderson.
